A Babylonian idol.
When Israel was captured by the Babylonians, God’s people still would not give up their idols and had to carry them from the good land to Babylon. Anything that replaces God or occupies the position of God is an idol that becomes a burden to the worshipper.
Referring to Cyrus in Isa. 44:28 and Isa. 45:1. In chs. 46—48 Christ as the Servant of Jehovah is typified by Cyrus to release Jehovah’s captives of the beloved Israel from Babylon. See note Isa. 41:21. Cyrus was a “bird of prey” called by God to subdue the nations.
