Jehovah’s punishing Israel with drought (Jer. 3:3a) was a curse for Israel’s breaking of Jehovah’s covenant (Deut. 11:17; 28:23). It was the ceasing of God’s heavenly supply to the earth. Such a thing took place during the time of Elijah (1 Kings 17:1), and it will happen again in the future (Rev. 11:6a; Zech. 14:17-18).
