The charge in vv. 1-20 is to hold marriage in honor (Heb. 13:4 and note Heb. 13:4¹). In holding marriage in honor, the man’s faithfulness is the base, and the woman’s virtues are the building up (Prov. 12:4a; Prov. 14:1a; Prov. 31:10-31). This is one of the principles in Proverbs for man to live a proper human life (see note Prov. 1:7^1a, par. 1).
