Prov. 18 :1 18:1 He who separates himself seeks his own desire
And rages against all sound wisdom.
Prov. 18 :2 18:2 A fool has no delight in understanding,
But only that his heart may reveal itself.
Prov. 18 :3 18:3 When the wicked man comes, contempt also comes;
And with dishonor comes reproach.
Prov. 18 :4 18:4 The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters,
A gushing stream, a fountain of wisdom.
Prov. 18 :5 18:5 To respect the person of the wicked man is not good,
Nor to turn aside the righteous man in judgment.
Prov. 18 :6 18:6 A fool’s lips bring strife,
And his mouth invites blows.
Prov. 18 :7 18:7 A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
And his lips are the snare of his soul.
Prov. 18 :8 18:8 aThe words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
And they go down into the innermost parts of one’s being.
Prov. 18 :9 18:9 He also who is slack in his work
Is brother to him who is a destroyer.
Prov. 18 :10 18:10 The name of Jehovah is a astrong tower;
The righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Prov. 18 :11 18:11 aThe rich man’s substance is his strong city
And like a high wall in his own imagination.
Prov. 18 :12 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,
aBut humility goes before honor.
Prov. 18 :13 18:13 As for him who gives an answer before he hears,
It is folly and shame.
Prov. 18 :14 18:14 The spirit of a man can sustain his sickness,
But a broken spirit who can bear?
Prov. 18 :15 18:15 aThe heart of one who has understanding acquires knowledge,
And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Prov. 18 :16 18:16 A man’s gift makes room for him
And brings him before great men.
Prov. 18 :17 18:17 The first to plead his case seems just,
Until his neighbor comes and cross-examines him.
Prov. 18 :18 18:18 The alot causes contentions to cease
And decides between the mighty.
Prov. 18 :19 18:19 A abrother offended is harder to be gained than a strong city,
And contentions are like the bars of a castle.
Prov. 18 :20 18:20 With the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach will be satisfied;
With the produce of his lips he will be satisfied.
Prov. 18 :21 18:21 Death and life are in the apower of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Prov. 18 :22 18:22 Whoever finds a awife finds a good thing,
And obtains favor from Jehovah.
Prov. 18 :23 18:23 The poor man utters supplications,
But the rich man aanswers roughly.
Prov. 18 :24 18:24 A man of many friends comes to destruction,
But there is a true afriend that sticks closer than a brother.
