c) The kingdom's wedding feast 22:1-14
Matt. 22 :1 22:1 And Jesus answered and spoke again in aparables to them, saying,
Matt. 22 :2 22:2 aThe 1bkingdom of the heavens has become like a 2cking who prepared a 3dwedding feast for his 2son.
Matt. 22 :3 22:3 And he sent his 1slaves to call those who had been called to the wedding feast, yet they would not come.
Matt. 22 :4 22:4 Again, he sent 1other slaves, saying, Tell those who have been called, Behold, I have prepared my 2dinner: my 3oxen and my afatted cattle have been slain, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast.
Matt. 22 :5 22:5 But they disregarded it and went off, one to his own field and another to his business,
Matt. 22 :6 22:6 And the rest took hold of his slaves, atreated them shamefully, and bkilled them.
Matt. 22 :7 22:7 And the king became angry, and he sent his 1troops and adestroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Matt. 22 :8 22:8 Then he said to his slaves, The wedding feast is ready, but those who have been called were 1anot worthy.
Matt. 22 :9 22:9 Go therefore to the 1crossroads, and as many as you find, call to the wedding feast.
Matt. 22 :10 22:10 And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both evil and good, and the wedding feast was filled with those reclining at table.
Matt. 22 :11 22:11 But when the king came in to look at those reclining at table, he saw there a man who was not aclothed with a 1wedding garment,
Matt. 22 :12 22:12 And he said to him, aFriend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matt. 22 :13 22:13 Then the king said to the 1servants, Bind his feet and hands, and 2acast him out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be the 3weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Matt. 22 :14 22:14 For many are 1acalled but few are bchosen.
2) By the disciples of the Pharisees and the Herodians concerning giving tribute to Caesar 22:15-22
Matt. 22 :15 22:15 aThen the 1Pharisees went and took bcounsel how they might ensnare Him in His cwords.
Matt. 22 :16 22:16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the 1aHerodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are true and that You teach the way of God in truth and 2do not fear anyone, for You do not 3regard the bperson of men.
Matt. 22 :17 22:17 Tell us therefore, What do You think? 1Is it lawful to give tribute to aCaesar, or not?
Matt. 22 :18 22:18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, Why do you atempt Me, 1hypocrites?
Matt. 22 :19 22:19 1Show Me the coin for the tribute. And they brought to Him a 2denarius.
Matt. 22 :20 22:20 And He said to them, Whose is this image and inscription?
Matt. 22 :21 22:21 They said, Caesar's. Then He said to them, Render then the 1things that are Caesar's ato Caesar and the 2things that are God's to God.
Matt. 22 :22 22:22 And when they heard this, they marveled. And they left Him and went away.
3) By the Sadducees concerning resurrection 22:23-33
Matt. 22 :23 22:23 aOn that day some 1bSadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and questioned Him,
Matt. 22 :24 22:24 Saying, Teacher, Moses said, If anyone dies and does not have children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his awife and raise up seed to his brother.
Matt. 22 :25 22:25 Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first married and died, and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother;
Matt. 22 :26 22:26 Likewise also the second and the third until the seventh.
Matt. 22 :27 22:27 And last of all the woman died.
Matt. 22 :28 22:28 In the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.
Matt. 22 :29 22:29 And Jesus answered and said to them, You err, anot 1knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Matt. 22 :30 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Matt. 22 :31 22:31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not aread that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Matt. 22 :32 22:32 a"I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob''? He is not the God of the dead, but of the 1living.
Matt. 22 :33 22:33 And when the crowds heard this, they were aastounded at His teaching.
4) By a lawyer concerning the great commandment in the law 22:34-40
Matt. 22 :34 22:34 aBut the Pharisees, when they heard that He had muzzled the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
Matt. 22 :35 22:35 And one of them, a 1alawyer, asked Him a question, btesting Him,
Matt. 22 :36 22:36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
Matt. 22 :37 22:37 And He said to him, a"You shall blove the Lord your God 1with all your heart and 1with all your soul and 1with all your mind.''
Matt. 22 :38 22:38 This is the great and first commandment.
Matt. 22 :39 22:39 And the second is like it: a"You shall love your neighbor as yourself.''
Matt. 22 :40 22:40 On these 1two commandments hang all athe Law and the Prophets.
5) Muzzling all the testers by the question concerning Christ 22:41-46
Matt. 22 :41 22:41 aNow while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
Matt. 22 :42 22:42 Saying, What do you think concerning the 1Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, aDavid's.
Matt. 22 :43 22:43 He said to them, How then does David in 1aspirit call Him Lord, saying,
Matt. 22 :44 22:44 a"The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies bunderneath Your feet''?
Matt. 22 :45 22:45 If then David calls Him 1Lord, how is He his 1son?
Matt. 22 :46 22:46 And 1ano one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone from that day dare to question Him anymore.
