6.
The accusation by the traditional religionists
15:1-20
Matt. 15
:1
15:1
aThen some Pharisees and scribes
1came to Jesus from
bJerusalem, saying,
Matt. 15
:2
15:2
Why do Your disciples
1transgress the
atradition of the elders? For they do
bnot wash their hands when they eat bread.
Matt. 15
:3
15:3
And He answered and said to them, Why do you also
1transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?
Matt. 15
:4
15:4
For God said,
1a"Honor your father and your mother,'' and, "He who
2bspeaks evil of father or mother, let him
3be put to death.''
Matt. 15
:5
15:5
But you say, Whoever says to his father or his mother, Whatever you would have been profited by me is
now a
1gift to God,
Matt. 15
:6
15:6
Shall by no means honor his father or his mother; and you have deprived the word of God of its authority because of your tradition.
Matt. 15
:7
15:7
1aHypocrites! Well has Isaiah prophesied concerning you, saying,
Matt. 15
:8
15:8
a"This people honors Me with their lips, but their
1heart stays far away from Me;
Matt. 15
:9
15:9
But in
1vain do they worship Me, teaching as teachings the
acommandments of men.''
Matt. 15
:10
15:10
And He called the crowd to
Him and said to them,
aHear and understand:
Matt. 15
:11
15:11
It is not that which enters into the mouth
that adefiles the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this
1defiles the man.
Matt. 15
:12
15:12
Then the disciples came and said to Him, Do You know that the Pharisees were stumbled when they heard this word?
Matt. 15
:13
15:13
And He answered and said, Every plant which My heavenly Father has
1not aplanted shall be
brooted up.
Matt. 15
:14
15:14
Let them be. They are
1ablind guides of the blind; and if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.
Matt. 15
:15
15:15
And Peter answered and said to Him, Explain this parable to us.
Matt. 15
:16
15:16
And He said, Are you also still
awithout understanding?
Matt. 15
:17
15:17
Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the
astomach and is expelled into the drain?
Matt. 15
:18
15:18
But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those
adefile the man.
Matt. 15
:19
15:19
For out of the
aheart come
1bevil reasonings, murders,
cadulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnessings, blasphemies.
Matt. 15
:20
15:20
These are the things which defile the man, but eating with unwashed hands does not defile the man.
7.
The faith of a Gentile woman
15:21-28
Matt. 15
:21
15:21
aAnd Jesus went from there and withdrew into the parts of
1bTyre and Sidon.
Matt. 15
:22
15:22
And behold, a
1aCanaanite woman came out from those borders and cried out, saying, Have mercy on me,
2Lord,
bSon of David! My daughter suffers terribly from demon possession.
Matt. 15
:23
15:23
But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying out after us.
Matt. 15
:24
15:24
But He answered and said, I was not
1sent except to the lost sheep of the
ahouse of Israel.
Matt. 15
:25
15:25
But she came and
1aworshipped Him, saying,
2Lord, help me!
Matt. 15
:26
15:26
But He answered and said, It is not good to take the children's
1bread and throw
it to the
2little adogs.
Matt. 15
:27
15:27
And she said, Yes, Lord, for even the little dogs eat of the
1crumbs which fall from their masters'
atable.
Matt. 15
:28
15:28
Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your
afaith! Be it
bdone to you as you wish. And her daughter was healed from that
chour.
8.
Healing for the glorification of God
15:29-31
Matt. 15
:29
15:29
aAnd Jesus departed from there and came beside the
bSea of
1Galilee; and He went up to the
cmountain and sat there.
Matt. 15
:30
15:30
And great crowds came to Him, having with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the dumb, and many other
sick ones; and they
1laid them at His feet, and He healed them,
Matt. 15
:31
15:31
So that the crowd marveled, because they saw the
adumb speaking, the crippled healthy and the lame walking, and the
bblind seeing. And they
cglorified the
dGod of Israel.
9.
The miracle of feeding four thousand
15:32-39
Matt. 15
:32
15:32
aAnd Jesus called His disciples to
Him and said, I am moved with
bcompassion for the crowd, because for three days now they have remained with Me and they do not have anything to eat. And I am
1not willing to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.
Matt. 15
:33
15:33
And the disciples said to Him, Where
can we
get so many loaves in
this 1desolate place to
asatisfy so great a crowd?
Matt. 15
:34
15:34
And Jesus said to them,
1How many loaves do you have? And they said, Seven, and a few small fish.
Matt. 15
:35
15:35
And after He commanded the crowd to recline on the ground,
Matt. 15
:36
15:36
He 1took the
aseven loaves and the fish, and giving
bthanks, He broke
them and gave
them to the disciples, and the disciples to the crowds.
Matt. 15
:37
15:37
And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what was left over of the
abroken pieces, seven baskets full.
Matt. 15
:38
15:38
And those who ate were four thousand men, apart from women and children.
Matt. 15
:39
15:39
And after He sent the crowds away, He stepped into the boat and came to the borders of Magadan.
