The reign of Jehoiakim

And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took Joahaz his brother and carried him away to Egypt.

aagainst them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, on old man or feeble; He delivered them all into his hand.

The proclamation of their release by Cyrus the king of Persia

aAnd in the first year of Cyrus the king of Persia, so that the
bword of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Jehovah
cstirred up the spirit of Cyrus the king of Persia; and he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and
put it also in writing, saying,

Thus says
aCyrus the king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth has Jehovah the God of
bheaven given to me; and He has charged me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may Jehovah his God be with him, and let him go up!
