Man's fall through Satan's corruption
The first fall — from God's presence to man's conscience
The serpent's (Satan's) temptation and man's first fall
was more crafty than any other
animal of the field that Jehovah God had made. And he said to the 2woman
God really say, bYou
shall not eat of any tree of the garden?
the woman 1said
to the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;
of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, aYou
shall not eat of it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.
the serpent said to the woman, aYou
shall not surely die!
God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will become alike 2God
, knowing good and evil.
when the awoman
saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a bdelight
to the eyes and that
the tree was to be desired to make oneself
wise, she 1took
of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some
to her husband with her, and he cate
the eyes of both of them were aopened
, and they 2knew
that they were naked; and they sewed 3fig
leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
God dealing with man's first fall
they heard the 1sound
of Jehovah God walking about in the garden in the 2cool
of the day, and the man and his wife ahid
themselves from the presence of Jehovah God among the trees of the garden.
God called to the man and said to him, 2Where
he said, I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I am anaked
; so I hid myself.
He said, 1Who
told you that you are naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?
the man said, The woman whom You gave to be
with me, she gave me fruit
from the tree, and I ate.
Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The aserpent
deceived me, and I ate.
Judging the serpent
Jehovah God said to the serpent,
Because you have done this,
You are 1cursed
more than all the cattle
And more than all the animals of the field:
Upon your 2stomach
you will go,
you will eat
All the days of your life.
The promise regarding the seed of the woman
I will put enmity
Between you and the 1woman
And between your 2seed
and her 3seed
He will 4abruise
you on the head,
But you will bruise him on the heel.
Disciplining man through suffering
the woman He said,
I will greatly multiply
Your pain in your 1achildbearing
In pain you will bring forth children.
And your desire will be to your husband,
And he will 1brule
to Adam He said, Because you listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree concerning which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it; aCursed
is the ground because of you;
will you eat of it
All the days of your life.
and thistles will it bring forth for you,
And you will eat the herb of the field;
the sweat of your face
You will eat bread
Until you return to the ground,
Because from it you were taken;
dust you shall return.
the man called his wife’s name 1Eve
, because she was the mother of aall
Jehovah God made coats of 1skin
for Adam and for his wife and 2aclothed
Closing the way to the tree of life
Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become like one of aUs
, knowing good and evil; and now, 1lest
he put forth his hand and take also from the btree
of life and eat and live forever —
Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to work the aground
from which he was taken.
He drove the man out, and at the east of the garden of Eden He placed the 1acherubim
and a flaming sword which turned in every direction to guard the way to the btree
