III. Jehovah's calling 12:1—50:26
A. The first aspect — the experience of Abraham 12:1—25:18
1. God's calling 12:1-7
Gen. 12 :1 12:1 1Now Jehovah 2said to Abram,
aGo from your land
And from your relatives
And from your 3father’s house
To the land that I will show you;
Gen. 12 :2 12:2 1And I will make of you a 2agreat nation,
And I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a bblessing.
Gen. 12 :3 12:3 And I will bless those who abless you,
And him who 1curses you I will curse;
And in you 2ball the families of the earth will be 3blessed.
Gen. 12 :4 12:4 So Abram awent as Jehovah had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he went out of Haran.
Gen. 12 :5 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife and aLot his brother’s son and all their possessions that they had gathered and the souls that they had acquired in Haran, and they 1went out to go to the bland of Canaan. And they 2came to the land of 3Canaan.
Gen. 12 :6 12:6 And Abram passed through the land to the place of aShechem, to the oak of Moreh. And at that time the Canaanites were in the land.
2. Living by faith 12:7—14:24
a. A life of the altar and the tent 12:7-8
Gen. 12 :7 12:7 And Jehovah 1appeared to Abram and said, To your 2aseed I will give this 2land. —
And there he built an 3baltar to Jehovah who had appeared to him.
Gen. 12 :8 12:8 And he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of 1aBethel and pitched his 2btent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an caltar to Jehovah and 3dcalled upon the name of Jehovah.
b. The trial of the called 12:9—13:18
1) Famine 12:9—13:4
Gen. 12 :9 12:9 And Abram journeyed onward, journeying toward the 1Negev.
Gen. 12 :10 12:10 And there was a 1afamine in the land; and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.
Gen. 12 :11 12:11 And when he was about to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, I know indeed that you are a beautiful woman to look at;
Gen. 12 :12 12:12 And when the Egyptians see you, they will say, This is his wife, and they will kill me; but they will keep you alive.
Gen. 12 :13 12:13 Now say you are my asister, that it may be well with me on account of you and 1I may live because of you.
Gen. 12 :14 12:14 And it came about that when Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
Gen. 12 :15 12:15 And Pharaoh’s officials saw her and praised her before Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
Gen. 12 :16 12:16 And he treated Abram well on account of her, and there were given to him sheep and oxen and donkeys and male servants and female servants and female donkeys and camels.
Gen. 12 :17 12:17 And Jehovah struck aPharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
Gen. 12 :18 12:18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
Gen. 12 :19 12:19 Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife? Now then here is your wife; take her and go.
Gen. 12 :20 12:20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him, and they sent him away 1with his wife and all that he had.
