Originally, 1 and 2 Samuel were one book in the Hebrew Scriptures. First Samuel 1—24 was written by Samuel (
1 Chron. 29:29;
1 Sam. 25:1).
The remainder of 1 Samuel and all of 2 Samuel were written by Nathan the prophet and Gad the seer (
1 Chron. 29:29).
