1 Kings 22 :1 22:1 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.

1 Kings 22 :2 22:2 Then in the third year ^aJehoshaphat the king of Judah ^bcame down to the king of Israel.

1 Kings 22 :3 22:3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you know that ^aRamoth-gilead is ours, and yet we keep quiet without taking it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

1 Kings 22 :4 22:4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me into battle at Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ^aI will be as you are; my people will be as your people; my horses, as your horses.

1 Kings 22 :5 22:5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, ^aAsk today, I beg you, for the word of Jehovah.

1 Kings 22 :6 22:6 And the king of Israel assembled the ^aprophets, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I refrain? And they said, Go up, and the ¹Lord will give it into the king’s hand.

1 Kings 22 :7 22:7 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not yet another ^aprophet of Jehovah here, that we might inquire of him?

1 Kings 22 :8 22:8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah; but I hate him, for he prophesies no good concerning me, but evil. It is Micaiah the son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

1 Kings 22 :9 22:9 Then the king of Israel called a certain officer and said, Quickly bring Micaiah the son of Imlah.

1 Kings 22 :10 22:10 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting, each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, on the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

1 Kings 22 :11 22:11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for himself horns of iron; and he said, Thus says Jehovah, With these you will push the Syrians until you have destroyed them.

1 Kings 22 :12 22:12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and succeed; for Jehovah will deliver it into the king’s hand.

1 Kings 22 :13 22:13 And the messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, See, the words of the prophets, being of one accord, seem good to the king. Let your word, I beg you, be like the word of one of them, and speak good.

1 Kings 22 :14 22:14 And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, ^athat which Jehovah says to me, that will I speak.

1 Kings 22 :15 22:15 And when he came to the king, the king said to him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain? And he said to him, Go up, and succeed; for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

1 Kings 22 :16 22:16 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?

1 Kings 22 :17 22:17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, like ^asheep that have no shepherd. And Jehovah said, These have no master; let each of them return to his house in peace.

1 Kings 22 :18 22:18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he prophesies no good concerning me, but evil?

1 Kings 22 :19 22:19 And Micaiah said, Hear therefore the word of Jehovah, I saw Jehovah sitting upon His ^athrone, and all the host of heaven ^bstanding by Him, on His right hand and on His left.

1 Kings 22 :20 22:20 And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said after this manner, and another said after that manner.

1 Kings 22 :21 22:21 And there came forth a certain spirit and stood before Jehovah and said, I will entice him.

1 Kings 22 :22 22:22 And Jehovah said unto him, How? And he said, I will go forth and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, You shall entice him and surely prevail. Go forth, and do so.

1 Kings 22 :23 22:23 So now Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

1 Kings 22 :24 22:24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah approached and ^astruck Micaiah upon the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of Jehovah pass from me to speak to you?

1 Kings 22 :25 22:25 And Micaiah said, You will see on that day when you go from room to room to hide yourself.

1 Kings 22 :26 22:26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.

1 Kings 22 :27 22:27 And you shall say, Thus says the king, Put this man in ^aprison, and feed him with the bread of affliction and with the water of affliction, until I come in peace.

1 Kings 22 :28 22:28 And Micaiah said, If you return in peace at all, ^aJehovah has not spoken by me. And he said, ^bListen, O peoples, all of ¹you!

1 Kings 22 :29 22:29 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

1 Kings 22 :30 22:30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself and enter into the battle; but you put on your robes. And the king of Israel ^adisguised himself and went into the battle.

1 Kings 22 :31 22:31 And the king of Syria commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, but with the ^aking of Israel only.

1 Kings 22 :32 22:32 And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, Surely this is the king of Israel. And they turned against him to fight, and Jehoshaphat cried out.

1 Kings 22 :33 22:33 And when the captains of the chariots perceived that he was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

1 Kings 22 :34 22:34 And a man drew a bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate. And the king of Israel said to his charioteer, Turn your hand, and drive me out of the camp; for I am ^awounded.

1 Kings 22 :35 22:35 And the battle increased that day; and the king was propped up in his chariot before the Syrians, and he died in the evening; and the blood of the wound ran out into the hollow of the chariot.

1 Kings 22 :36 22:36 And the cry went throughout the army at the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own land!

1 Kings 22 :37 22:37 And the king died and was brought to Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria.

1 Kings 22 :38 22:38 And someone washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked his ^ablood where the harlots bathed, according to the word of Jehovah, which He had spoken.

1 Kings 22 :39 22:39 And the rest of the acts of Ahab and all that he did and the ^aivory house that he built and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

1 Kings 22 :40 22:40 And Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.

1 Kings 22 :41 22:41 ^aAnd Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab the king of Israel.

1 Kings 22 :42 22:42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.

1 Kings 22 :43 22:43 And he walked in all the ^away of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of Jehovah. Nevertheless the high places were ^bnot removed; the people offered sacrifices and burned incense still on the high places.

1 Kings 22 :44 22:44 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

1 Kings 22 :45 22:45 And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat and his might that he showed and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

1 Kings 22 :46 22:46 And the remainder of the male cult prostitutes, which were left in the days of his father Asa, he put away from out of the land.

1 Kings 22 :47 22:47 And there was no king in Edom; a deputy was king.

1 Kings 22 :48 22:48 Jehoshaphat made ^aships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold; but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion-geber.

1 Kings 22 :49 22:49 Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat was not willing.

1 Kings 22 :50 22:50 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

1 Kings 22 :51 22:51 ^aAhaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah; and he reigned two years over Israel.

1 Kings 22 :52 22:52 And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and walked in the way of his father and in the way of his mother and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

1 Kings 22 :53 22:53 And he served ^aBaal and worshipped him and provoked Jehovah the God of Israel to anger, according to all that his father had done.
