This book is a translation of messages given by Brother Witness Lee in Taipei to the elders and co-workers from Taiwan, during the month of April and through May 6, 1988. This book is the second in a series entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord’s Recovery.

Elder
The elders in the Old Testament being the administrators among God’s people
The priests in the Old Testament being those who bore God’s people
The elders in the New Testament also being priests
Conditions for being an elder
God’s New Testament economy being for the building up of the church
The church as the pillar and base of the truth being God manifested in the flesh
The importance of the elders in the administration of the local church
Cooperating with the apostles
Following the leading of the Holy Spirit
The elders being those who care for the church
Having a good testimony in their living
Taking the lead well
Being apt to teach
Laboring in word and teaching
Taking heed to shepherd
Not lording it over others but becoming patterns to them
Those who aspire to the overseership desiring a good work
The proper pursuit of the elders    ch.2
Needing to be able to take the lead, to teach, to render care, to take heed, and to shepherd
Not lording it over the saints but being patterns to them
Learning to visit people and endeavoring to spread the truth
Needing to advance and abound in the knowledge of the truth
First having the knowledge of the truth themselves
Then teaching others
Earnestly desiring and practicing to prophesy
Excelling in the exercise of gifts
Speaking for the Lord and speaking forth the Lord
Prophesying for the building up of the church — the Body of Christ
Growing in life unto maturity
Having the experiences of life themselves
Ministering to others
For the building up of the church and the producing of gold, silver, and precious stones as materials
Needing to be revived every morning and to live an overcoming life every day
After morning revival, calling on the Lord and enjoying the Lord as the new portion in His word
Confessing to the Lord and receiving the infilling of the Spirit
Walking according to the Spirit to live Christ
Praying unceasingly — calling on the Lord unceasingly
Preaching Christ in season and out of season
Being diligent to meet together
Relying on the bountiful supply of the Spirit and the empowering of the Lord

Practicing the way ordained by the Lord
Needing to visit people for gospel preaching to gain new ones
Needing to help the new ones by establishing meetings in their homes

Those who take care of meetings in the homes needing to establish group meetings at any time and at any place according to need
There being no regulations or forms, with everything being done according to environment and need
Those leading the group meetings needing to exercise to direct the content of the meeting, and there being a need to have some ministry of the word each time
Group meetings needing to include singing and praying but without any form
The goal of the group meetings being to bring the believers into mutual acquaintance, fellowship, encouragement, strengthening, care, and intercession

Our negligence in taking care of the saints in the past
Nearly no signs of revival throughout the earth
Truth producing life and life bearing fruit
Home meetings being able to keep people, and group meetings having the function of joining people to one another
Not seeking quick success in the new way, but laboring to bear fruit

The need to teach the believers to observe all that the Lord commanded
The need for the believers to continue steadfastly in the teaching of the apostles
The need for apostles to teach unceasingly in big meetings and in home meetings
The need for the believers to always learn and to come to the full knowledge of the truth
The need for the believers to let the word of Christ dwell in them richly
The need for the believers to be experienced in the Lord’s word through exercise and practice
The need for those who are learned in the Lord’s word to commit what they have learned to those who will be competent to teach others also
Concerning the exercise of speaking in the meetings
Learning the truth for prophesying (2)    ch.9
Prophets seeking not the letter but the Lord Himself
Laboring in our daily living to have riches to offer in the meetings
In order to have a teaching, one needing to know God and God’s ways and to have a proper being
In order to have a revelation, a person needing to be one spirit with the Lord to know the mystery of God
The urgent need at present being the ability to lead, to teach, and to prophesy
Learning and leading in many aspects
Avoiding having different opinions
Learning the truth for prophesying (3)    ch.10
The church service today being open to all the saints
Endeavoring to pursue the truth in order to prophesy well
Speaking for the Lord requiring gravity and weightiness
Leading the church to exercise and practice
The origin and benefit of the life-study of the Bible
Needing to be constituted with the high truths
Needing to take definite steps to promote the new way in its various aspects
An additional word on prophesying
The ministry of the New Testament    ch.11
The ministry of the Spirit and of righteousness
In contrast with the ministry of the Old Testament, the ministry of death and of condemnation
Being uniquely one
All the gifted ones and all the saints being for this ministry
For the building up of the Body of Christ
To hold on to some special creeds being to build up one’s own ministry
