Knowing that you have eternal life

  Scripture: 1 John 5:12-13

  I. The meaning of eternal life:
А. Eternal life is life that is eternal.
   B. Eternal life is God’s life.

II. Eternal life is in the Son of God:
А. God put His eternal life into His Son.
   B. He who has the Son of God has eternal life.

III. The proof of having eternal life:
А. You can know whether you have eternal life. Emphasize that it is wrong if one does not know whether he has eternal life.
   B. The words of the Bible prove that we have eternal life. Here it says, “I have written these things to you that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).
   C. Based upon the words of the Bible, one should know that he has eternal life.
   D. If one does not believe in God’s word, he makes God a liar.
   E. We should reject our own feeling rather than disbelieve the words of the Bible; we should distrust ourselves rather than make God a liar.

The whole world lies in the evil one

  Scripture: 1 John 5:19

  I. Men are captives of the evil one:
А. Once men followed the evil one to commit sin, they became captives of the evil one.
   B. As soon as a man is born, he is in the position of a captive.

II. Men are in the power of the devil:
А. To say that man became the devil’s captive means that man fell into the power of the devil.
   B. To be in the power of the devil is to be dominated by him.

III. Men are lying in the hands of the evil one:
А. Men are not only dominated by the devil, but they are also manipulated by him.
   B. To be dominated means that one is refused his freedom; even worse, to be manipulated means one is led to act unwittingly, with no consciousness of being manipulated.
   C. To dominate is to deny one the freedom to do anything; to manipulate is to make one do something without the realization of what he is doing. A man lying in the hands of the devil is like a patient on the operating table who, having been anesthetized, allows the doctor to operate freely.
   D. Give examples to show how man is in the devil’s hand, committing sin without consciousness and without self-control.

IV. How to escape from the hands of the devil:
А. Confess that you are in the hands of the devil.
   B. Believe in Jesus as your Savior because He has destroyed the devil and nullified the works of the devil.

The Lamb that was slain

  Scripture: Rev. 5:6, 9; 1:5; 7:14, 17; 13:8

  I. The Lamb is Christ:
А. Christ came to redeem men.
   B. Christ’s redemption was accomplished through His coming as the Lamb of God. As the Lamb, He was slain and His blood was shed for men.

II. To be slain is to be crucified:
А. Christ was crucified on the cross because He bore man’s sins.
   B. Christ was crucified to satisfy God’s righteous requirement.

III. The effectiveness of the Lamb’s being slain:
А. It enables us to depart from sins.
   B. It washes us clean and white.
   C. It qualifies us to receive the life of God.

IV. How to obtain the Lamb that was slain:
А. Confess that He was slain for you.
   B. Receive Him as your Savior.

The wrath of the Lamb

  Scripture: Rev. 6:12-17

  I. The Lamb is Christ:
А. The Lamb symbolizes Christ as man’s Savior who accomplished redemption.
   B. Whenever the Bible refers to Christ as the Lamb, it alludes to His being the Savior for the redemption of man.

II. The tender love of the Lamb:
А. Whenever the Bible mentions the Lamb, there is the thought of tender love conveyed.
   B. The way Christ appears as the Lamb is also tender-loving.
   C. When Christ was being offered up for the redemption of man, He was like a lamb being led to the slaughter; He was without murmuring or hatred.
   D. When Christ bore man’s sins on the cross, He was the Lamb full of tender love.

III. The wrath of the Lamb:
А. While the Lamb was tender-loving for the redemption of man, Revelation 6 refers to the wrath of the Lamb.
   B. The wrath of the Lamb is not caused by man’s sins but by man’s unbelief and rejection. Even though man is sinful, God is able to redeem him, but man’s unbelief and rejection kindle God’s wrath.

IV. The time of the wrath of the Lamb:
А. The time of His wrath will be at the end of this age.
   B. There is the possibility that the age could end at any moment.

  V. The consequence of the wrath of the Lamb:
А. When the wrath of the Lamb comes, the heavens and the earth will be turned upside down and men will be struck with sudden terror and fear.
   B. All those who heard the gospel and did not believe, but rather rejected Him, will be in that calamity.

VI. How to escape the wrath of the Lamb:
А. Do not put off confronting God until tomorrow. Tomorrow may be the day of His wrath. Repent and believe in Him today.
   B. Today you can receive Him as the loving Lamb. Confess that He is your Savior, and open your heart to Him.

The eternal judgment

  Scripture: Rev. 20:11-15

  I. The conclusion of the last days:
А. The last days of the universe will be concluded by judgment.
   B. Of all God’s judgments the greatest will be His judgment upon men of all generations at the end of the present heavens and earth.

  II. God’s judgment:
А. God’s judgment at the end of the present heavens and earth will be executed at the great white throne. Whiteness signifies righteousness and purity. All of man’s unrighteousness and filthiness will be reflected in front of that throne of judgment.
   B. God’s judgment will be based upon the books before Him. These are the records of all of men’s words and deeds. God’s judgment will be made according to these records.
   C. God’s judgment in that day will be made according to what we do today.

III. The result of God’s judgment:
А. All those whose names are not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.
   B. All those whose names are written in the book of life are the ones who have believed in the Lord Jesus and have obtained His life.
   C. The result of the judgment is that all those who did not believe in the Lord Jesus will be cast into the lake of fire.
   D. To be cast into the lake of fire is to perish forever.

IV. How to avoid the eternal judgment:
А. Repent and turn to God.
   B. Receive the Lord Jesus as our Savior. This is also to obtain God’s life so that our names may be written in the book of life. Only those whose names are written in the book of life can escape the eternal judgment.

Springs of waters of life

  Scripture: Rev. 7:17; 21:6; 22:1, 17

  I. The water of life:
А. God is the water of life.
   B. This water issues from the Son of God. God is in His Son Jesus Christ as the water of life.

II. The springs of waters of life:
А. The springs of waters of life are the life of God.
   B. This water of life is flowing out of God’s Son to be received by man.

III. The function of the water of life:
А. As water is for quenching thirst, so also is the water of life. It quenches the thirst of human living.
   B. Water is not only for quenching thirst but also for enjoyment. So also is the water of life to man. It not only quenches man’s thirst but also gives man eternal enjoyment.
   C. The water of life also delivers man from death.

IV. How to obtain the water of life:
А. To obtain water you must drink.
   B. You do not need to pay any price, because it is freely given by God. Everyone can drink freely.
   C. To drink freely is not to depend on your works but simply to believe and receive.

The torment of hell

  Scripture: Rev. 14:9-11; 21:8; Mark 9:43, 48

  I. Hell is the portion of God’s wrath:
(In Revelation 14:10 cup means “portion.”)
А. Because of God’s love toward man, He accomplished redemption for him.
   B. If a man refuses to repent, he remains under God’s wrath.
   C. The totality of God’s wrath is hell.

II. There is fire and brimstone in hell:
   А. Fire burns man.
   B. Brimstone chokes man.
   C. The lake of fire that burns with brimstone is unquenchable.

III. There are worms that do not die in hell:
To be bitten by mosquitoes, bugs, or fleas is already unbearable, but imagine the torment from the worms in hell, which do not die with the unquenchable fire.

  IV. How to escape hell:

Who will be in the lake of fire?

  Scripture: Rev. 21:8

  I. Those who will be in the lake of fire:
А. The cowardly. These want to believe in Jesus but are afraid of others’ mocking.
   B. The unbelieving. These would not receive the Lord Jesus as their Savior.
   C. The abominable. These do not believe in the true God but rather worship idols. This is like an evil woman who loves another man besides her own husband and commits abominations.
   D. The murderers. Once a man worships idols, it is easy for him to commit sins and to hate and kill others.
   E. The fornicators. Today’s newspapers, magazines, and movies are full of fornication.
   F. The sorcerers. These include fortune tellers, soothsayers, astrologists, etc.
   G. The idolaters. Abomination and idolatry are nearly the same. The difference is that abomination refers to the nature of idol worship, whereas idolatry refers to the act of idol worship.
   H. The false, liars.
   I. All men are at least one of these eight kinds of people. Whoever is none of these, please raise your hand.

II. How to escape the lake of fire:
   А. Repent.
   B. Believe in Jesus.
